Matter Matters

SilviaEly’s practice is rooted in the interaction between matter and image. Working primarily through painting on fragmented and reclaimed supports, she approaches the surface not as a neutral space, but as an active structure shaped by rupture, tension and transformation.

Rather than conceiving the artwork as a finished image, her work develops through processes in which material resistance, imperfection and physical alteration become essential components of visual meaning. Fragmented surfaces and reconstructed supports act as both foundation and disruption, allowing the image to emerge through states of instability.

This approach establishes a continuous dialogue between image and object, where painting becomes a physical field of negotiation between form, memory and material presence. From this core investigation, her practice expands into performance, UV light, vibration and interventions in public space, extending the work beyond the studio into shared and experiential contexts.
